This Section of the Standard looks at the different requirements of artificial surfaces for multi-sports use and will be of particular interest to someone who is responsible for writing construction or maintenance documents for multi-use facilities.
A large number of performance parameters and test methods are provided for the range of sports that are typically played on multi-use sites.
The test methods are those that are described in Part 2 of the Standard.
For example: The rebound resilience for football pitches has a recommended performance parameter of 25% to 50% and is measured by using test Method 1 of BS 7044-2.1 1989.
The performance criteria can be usefully incorporated as either
- details in manufacturers technical data sheets;
- showing compliance with contract requirements;
- initial post-installation standard of work prior to handover to a client;
- ongoing monitoring of the quality of the playing surface.
A detailed test schedule identifies whether testing should take place in a laboratory and/or on the completed installation.
