The GMA Invites BASIS to Speak at SALTEX

The GMA is pleased to have invited BASIS to take part in this year’s SALTEX Learning LIVE education programme at the Birmingham NEC where Chris Whitaker, BASIS Chair, will be delivering a presentation titled: 'Climate change: what might COP26 mean for the sports turf sector'.

The GMA and BASIS partnered earlier this year to share good practice and innovation amongst members of both organisations. The grounds management industry is key to promoting sustainable best practice and methods for maintaining turf and artificial surfaces to help counteract the threat posed by climate change to a variety of sports.

On the partnership between the GMA and BASIS, Geoff Webb, CEO of the GMA commented:

“Environmental and sustainable sports turf management will be something that all working on sports surfaces will have a responsibility towards. This collaboration with BASIS helps to accelerate knowledge and understanding of some key issues impacting how and why the need to grasp more sustainable management is of paramount importance and can aid and advance individuals and site owners as we grapple with the impact of new regulations and the implications on our sector of climate change in the years ahead. Sports turf managers already embrace this thinking and we hope to create more opportunities to enhance understanding through this partnership.”

Russell Seymour, CEO BASIS said:

“Climate change poses a very real threat to the future of all sport, at BASIS we are constantly looking for ways to help the sports sector minimise these impacts by offering mechanisms to share sustainability best practice. By partnering with the GMA we are able to bring together the collective membership base of the two organisations and help engage our community on methods for sustainable management of turf and artificial surfaces”.
