Legendary cricket groundsman, Keith Boyce, has inducted into the Grounds Management Association Hall of Fame.
Keith was Head Groundsman at Yorkshire County Cricket Club and Leeds Rugby for 30 years. His reputation was founded primarily during his time as Head Groundsman at Headingley, where, often in difficult circumstances, he used skill and ingenuity to produce playing surfaces of the highest standard. Keith presided over the historic 1981 Ashes Test match known as “Botham’s Ashes”.
Throughout his career, he has developed grounds people at all levels, with many going on to have high profile and successful careers. Keith always employed modern day practices in grounds maintenance and management way before there was the now well-established machinery available.
Keith has consistently been an inspiration to many. Having championed the GMA’s Yorkshire branch for many years, his GMA training courses at Headingley regularly attracted audiences of over 200. He has always found time to offer advice or solutions to a problem.
Keith continues to this day to produce similarly high-quality pitches at the New Rover Cricket Club in Leeds.
Keith is a unique and very special person who is a great addition to the Grounds Management Association Hall of Fame.
