Hollow Tine Calculator

This interactive calculator will help provide a fairly accurate estimate of the top-dressing requirements for an area that is being hollow-tined.

It does not allow for any overlap where the operation is not carried out in straight lines nor where a second hollow-tining may overlap on the holes formed by the first occasion: A small percentage allowance may wish to be allowed for this occurring.

The amount of top-dressing required to completely fill the holes will in practice be slightly less than the figure given due to tines holes closing up slightly and some excavated material falling back into the holes.

Answer the following questions:- Measure Calculated data for the figures you have supplied:
What is the internal diameter of the hollow tine being used? cm The estimated percentage of the area that will be hollow-tined is:
%
How far apart are the tines spaced, or will be spaced? cm
How many times will the area be hollow-tined during the renovation? occasion/s
What is the effective depth of penetration and core removal for the hollow tines? cm The estimated amount of material that will be required to completely fill the hollow-tine holes: tonnes
What is the total area that is being renovated? m2 The estimated amount of material to provide the required depth of top-dressing over the whole of the area: tonnes
What is the required depth of top-dressing over the total surface of the area? mm
The estimated total amount of top-dressing that will be required is based on a bulk density of 1.5 t per m3. If this is different then alter the figure accordingly. t per m3 The total amount of top-dressing required: tonnes
How much will the top-dressing cost for one tonne? £ per tonne The total estimated cost of the top-dressing is: £
