GMA learners reported a ‘good’ to ‘significant’ improvement in their soft skills upon completion of their online training course, according to the latest results from the Grounds Management Association’s Learning Matrix Survey.
Soft skills are a range of interpersonal skills including problem-solving, communication, and time management, all of which are vitally important when seeking employment.
Learners who completed any of the GMA’s online training courses during the six months from October 2021 to April 2022, were surveyed following the completion of their chosen course.
86% of respondents stated an improvement in their soft skills in addition to the advancement of technical knowledge gained from completing the courses. A combination of both technical and soft skills is needed to progress in any career, and it’s no different for groundspeople.
“We always design GMA courses to be thorough and expansive in terms of the range of skills students develop during their studies, which is why the results of our soft skills survey are so encouraging,” said Dan Prest, Head of Technical and Learning at the GMA.
“Our aim is to not only support learners in understanding how to better maintain pitches and other turf surfaces but to leave them with skills that also support them in their careers and everyday lives. The results of our survey reinforce our confidence that we’re going the right way about it.”
